Weekly GCSE English Tuition

Led by Lynda Bevan – former Head of English, Headteacher and examiner with over 30 years of experience helping students build confidence and achieve their potential in English.

At Elevate English, we understand that success in GCSE English isn’t just about improving grades. It’s about helping students develop confidence in their own abilities, learn how to think critically and feel supported every step of the way.

Through expert teaching, encouragement and a genuine belief in every students potential, Lynda creates an environment where young people feel safe to ask questions, challenge ideas and discover that they are capable of far more than they first believed.

Whether your child needs reassurance, structure or a confidence boost, Elevate English provides the guidance and support to help them thrive.

Meet Lynda

With over 30 years of experience in education, including roles as a teacher, Head of English and Headteacher, Lynda brings both expertise and warmth to every lesson.

As a former examiner, she understands exactly what exam boards are looking for and helps students approach GCSE English with clarity and confidence.

But what families often value most is her calm and encouraging approach.

Many students begin their journey with Elevate English feeling overwhelmed, anxious or convinced that they simply “aren’t good at English”. Through patience, humour and a genuine belief in every child’s potential, Lynda helps them rediscover confidence and realise that success is possible.

Because English isn’t just about passing exams. It’s about helping young people find their voice and believe in themselves.

The G.R.A.D.E Method

A clear framework designed to help students think critically, communicate effectively and approach GCSE English with confidence

Success in GCSE English isn’t about memorising model answers or learning what to write by heart. It’s about understanding how to interpret questions, analyse ideas and communicate clearly under pressure.

At the heart of every lesson is Lynda’s G.R.A.D.E Method – a practical framework that helps students develop the habits, skills and confidence needed to succeed in both English Language and Literature.

Rather than relying on shortcuts, students learn strategies they can apply independently across a wide range of questions and texts. Over time, they become more confident, more reflective and better equipped to tackle the demands of GCSE English.

Why Small Classes Work

Many parents assume that one-to-one tuition is the gold standard. In reality, thoughtfully designed small-class learning offers a unique combination of individual support, collaboration and confidence-building that helps students to thrive.

At Elevate English, lessons are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of six students per class. This creates an environment where every child is known as an individual and encouraged to contribute, while also benefitting from the ideas, questions and perspective of others.

Students quickly realise that they aren’t alone in their uncertainties. They gain confidence from hearing different viewpoint, learn to articulate their thinking and develop stronger critical thinking skills through discussion and shared learning.

Students still receive personalised feedback and targeted support, but they also gain something that cannot be recreated in one-to-one lessons: the opportunity to learn alongside others, challenge ideas and grow in confidence together. For many students, it becomes the perfect balance between individual attention and the rich learning that comes from being part of a supportive class.
